The #SaveQueerStories Pledge
The #SaveQueerStories pledge demands that streaming services commit to the following actions to address the LGBTQ+ erasure on their platforms:
1. To issue a statement committing to diverse storytelling, including stories that center LGBTQ+ voices and people of color,2. To properly promote and support future and existing queer shows,3. To mindfully reduce the number of early cancellations of queer shows such that they are less than or equivalent to non-queer shows, and4. To restore and complete one or more canceled queer series.
Support These Canceled Shows!
When contacting your streaming service and requesting the restoration of a canceled queer show, please consider advocating for one of our participating series. Their established campaigns have helped to spread the word!

Dear [Recipient's Name]:I hope this message finds you well. I'm writing you today with a heartfelt plea to advocate for LGBTQ+ representation on your platform. An independent study conducted conjointly with the Save Queer Stories online movement recently shed some light on startling findings regarding LGBTQ+ representation in media that I’d like to share with you today.Data from Rotten Tomatoes and Vulture revealed that, despite making up only 16% of all TV series, queer shows represented 33% of cancellations this year. Half (54%) of queer shows were canceled in 2024 alone, meaning queer stories are canceled more than twice as often as other shows. Additionally, queer media is more likely to be canceled after just one season. It’s worth noting that shows with LGBTQ+ representation perform as well as, or better than, non-queer shows in terms of viewership numbers and critical reception. The average Rotten Tomatoes critic score for canceled queer shows is over 80%, and over 75% for viewer score. Examples run rampant: the Witcher ran for 5 seasons with a critic score of 80 and an audience score of 54, Billy the Kid ran for 3 seasons with a critic score of 50 and an audience score of 88, and the the live-action Avatar is slated to run for 3 seasons with a critic score of 60 and an audience score of 71. Meanwhile, queer shows that have achieved much higher acclaim were prematurely canceled. Dead Boy Detectives sports a critic score of 92 and an audience score of 91, My Lady Jane clocks in with a critic score of 95 and an audience score of 91, and Our Flag Means Death boasts a critic score of 95 and an audience score of 96.For many people, their first and only real exposure to LGBTQ+ identities comes from media. To queer audiences, seeing positive depictions encourages feelings of future potential, validity, and hope, and that representation is lifesaving. Positive representation leads to better mental health outcomes for LGBTQ+ individuals, reduces stigma, and improves attitudes towards queer people. The harmful trend of stripping media of this representation must come to an end. As a paying customer, I want to know that my money is going toward a company that goes the extra mile to commit to diverse storytelling, including stories that center on LGBTQ+ voices and people of color.
I implore your platform to agree to the SaveQueerStories pledge:1. To restore and complete one or more canceled queer series such as [the queer story you’re advocating for].
Thank you for taking the time to read this message and consider the importance of LGBTQ+ representation and its positive impact on audiences worldwide. I sincerely hope that those in decision-making positions for your platform will be moved to action and step up to champion this cause.Warm regards,[Your Name Here]

More Ways to Help
Here are some additional ways to support queer stories!
Stream!
A big factor in whether a canceled show gets picked up is streaming numbers. Sustained or even increased interest in queer titles shows streaming platforms they are in demand! Stream your favorite titles (do not mute in the app) as often as you can.
Rate
Rate queer shows on IMDB, Rotten Tomatoes, and Google to share the love! You can even rate individual episodes on IMDB, and it's free.
Spread The Word
Continue to let people know about the disparate treatment towards LGBTQ+ stories. Share the hashtag #SaveQueerStories, as well as individual show hashtags, on social media. Interact often with streaming platforms' posts with reminders that we're still here. Encourage friends, family, and followers to speak up, too!
Get Creative
If you're one of our amazing fanartists or editors out there, consider using your creative work to help spread the word! Fandom is a powerful force.
Feedback/Suggestion Pages
Streaming services have forms where you may request specific titles or other concerns. You are usually able to submit these once a day.
